RATTLESNAKE SAFETY

As the weather gets warmer snakes are becoming more active. Here in Santa Clarita we see Rattlesnakes very often. Here are some tips to ensure you pet stays safe:

  1. Rattlesnake Avoidance Class:
Consider taking your dog to a rattlesnake avoidance class to help teach your pet these snakes are not toys and should be left alone: http://www.snakesafedog.com/home-1.html
  2.  Vaccinate Your Pet:
You still need to seek immediate treatment after a rattlesnake bite, but having the rattlesnake vaccine up to date can help dogs experience less pain and have a reduced risk of permanent injury from a rattlesnake bite.
  3.  Avoidance:
During the warm weather avoid hiking in tall brush or area’s with low visibility. Always keep your pet on leash and be aware of your surroundings.
  4. Pick up Debris:
Ensuring your yard is clear of clutter such as wood piles, scrap metal or any other items that aren’t moved often. Snakes like to be able to hide and taking their hiding places away is a good step in the right direction.

Please remember, Rattlesnakes live here too. While we may not always like our scaley friends they are not out to get us and quite often are just as afraid of us as we are of them.
